How to Release a Song on Spotify Made With a Type Beat
In short: buy the license before you release, upload the song through a digital distributor (Spotify doesn’t let you upload directly), put “prod. by Laruny” in the credits and don’t register the beat in Content ID. Schedule the release 2 to 4 weeks ahead.
1. Buy the license before you release
The free preview has a voice tag and no license: it’s for listening and recording a demo, not for releasing. With the license you get the clean file and the contract as a PDF. Basic covers up to 150,000 streams, Premium up to 350,000 and Unlimited has no limit. See the licenses →
2. Use a digital distributor
Spotify doesn’t let artists upload songs directly: it’s done through a distributor, like DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby, Amuse or Ditto. The distributor sends it to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, TikTok and the other platforms. Compare prices and fees before you choose, because they change often.
3. Fill in the credits properly
All my licenses require crediting the producer. Put “prod. by Laruny” where your license says (in the title, the description or the credits) and “Laruny” as the producer in the distributor’s details.
4. Don’t register the beat in Content ID
Many distributors offer to turn on “YouTube Content ID” for your song. Leave it off: the beat is already registered under my name. If YouTube puts a claim on your song, send me the link on WhatsApp or by email and I remove it right away. 100% of what your song earns stays with you (Basic, Premium and Unlimited).
5. Schedule the date with time
Upload the song to the distributor 2 to 4 weeks before the release. That gives you time to pitch it to the editorial playlists from Spotify for Artists, which asks you to do it at least 7 days ahead.
6. After the release
Claim your profile on Spotify for Artists and watch your streams. If you get close to your license’s limit, upgrade whenever you want: you only pay the difference.
