Unlimited License vs. Exclusive Rights: Which One Does Your Song Actually Need

Licencia Unlimited vs. derechos Exclusive: cuál necesita de verdad tu canción

August 11, 2026 · Laruny Music

"Unlimited" and "Exclusive" are the two most confused terms in beat licensing — the names practically ask to be mixed up. They're not close to the same thing, and picking the wrong one either wastes money or leaves your song under-protected.

Unlimited: no cap, but not alone

An Unlimited license removes every ceiling a lower tier has — no cap on sales, no cap on monetized streams, and it usually adds the separated stems plus 100% of the master royalties staying with you. What it does not remove is exclusivity: the same instrumental can still be licensed to other artists, because you don't own it — you own an unlimited-use license to it.

For most artists, this is the right tier. You get every practical right you need to release, monetize, and scale a song with zero usage ceiling, at a fraction of what buying the beat outright would cost.

Exclusive: ownership, at ownership pricing

Exclusive rights pull the beat from sale entirely and hand you (functionally) full ownership — no one else can buy or use it again, ever. This is the tier that actually behaves like the beat is "yours" in the way people usually mean when they say that. It's priced accordingly, and it's negotiated directly rather than sold at a fixed price, because the producer is giving up all future income from that instrumental in one transaction.

When Unlimited is the right call

When Exclusive is worth it

The mistake to avoid

Buying Exclusive on a song you're not sure about yet is the most common overspend in beat licensing — you're paying ownership pricing for a track that might not even make the final cut of a project. The reverse mistake is rarer but costs more: releasing a song that takes off on a Basic license and blowing past its cap without upgrading, which risks the license itself. Match the tier to how certain you are about the song, not to how good the beat sounds on first listen.

Every beat on Laruny that's available for exclusive rights is priced individually and negotiated directly over WhatsApp — Unlimited, when offered, is a fixed price you can check right on the beat's page. Browse the catalog and compare tiers on any beat →
